Novartis is committed to developing new, innovative medicines for the treatment of respiratory diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
One of our leading products is Xolair (omalizumab), a novel biological therapy that targets one of the underlying causes of severe allergic asthma. Outside the US, Foradil (formoterol fumerate) is also available for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).COPD is a group of diseases including bronchitis and emphysema.
Our leading development compound is QAB149 (indacaterol), the cornerstone for an ambitious program to develop a range of once-daily inhaled therapies. NVA237 (glycopyrronium bromide) - is a novel inhaled formulation of glycopyrronium bromide - is being developed as both as a monotherapy and combination treatment for COPD. Novartis also licensed in NIC002 from Cytos. NIC002 is a vaccine in Phase II development for the treatment of nicotine addiction.
